OHS/Brethren/BearLake Ski Team does well at Caberfae

Despite unseasonably warm temperatures and cancellations along with rescheduling of races due to rain and poor snow conditions the team took on their first race of the season with vigor. OHS's Danielle Olson led the girls team with her medal and sixth place finish in Slalom with times of :30.56 and :31.65 leading the team to a sixth place finish out of 8 teams. Kelly Waligorski placed 21st ahead of teammate Monika Higley of BearLake who finished 22nd. Emily Harwell's first run came in at :32.71 , but she DNF'd on her second run placing her 49th. The team scored 98 points for the slalom event.
 In Giant Slalom, Senior Danielle Olson once again led the team to a sixth place finish with her 8th place finish and times of :31.59 and :31.22. Brethren's Emily Harwell, racing with the OHS co-op, stepped up and grabbed 13th place with her times of :32:33 and :32.01. Monika Higley slid into 25th place and Kelly Waligorski placed 29th .

LMSC: Lake Michigan Ski Conference consists of Benzie, Bellaire, Glen Lake, Manistee, Onekama ski teams which includes those teams that co-op including Brethren , Bearlake, Frankfort, MCC....

The boy's, team which is a co-op of Onekama and Brethren this year, faced nine schools. Senior Jesse Ketchum led the team in Slalom with his 16th place and times of :28.14 and :27.18. Garret Samsal took 21st with times of :28.32 and :28.29. BJ Jobbins placed 34th and Freshman Donny Olson 40th for a team effort of 111pts for 8th place in team standings.
  The OHS/BHS team placed 9th in Giant Slalom with 144 points. Jesse Ketchum once again led the team with his placing of 22nd and times of :31.09 and :30.19. Garret Samsal finished 32nd with :32.19 and :31.28, BJ Jobbins 44th and Donny Olson 46th.
Next race is a LMSC race at Crystal Mt. Friday, 1-13-06 which is a make up race from earlier this week.
Lots of photos were taken at the race and we will post them shortly...promise! They were not taken with a digital so it will be a day or so. The teams are ready ,now if Mother Nature will cooperate!
